Super 8 film transferred to video shown as part of Looking for Pierre, exhibition Sutton Gallery, Fitzroy.

After Ernest Lamy's Porte and Boulevard St. Denis, Paris, in the Snow (c1863), most instantaneous street scenes of the 1860s and 1870s are usually taken from a high vantage point, typically the upper stories of a building or similar structure. Street scenes in the snow are difficult to photograph as it's hard to balance the exposure of relatively dark figures with the bright, reflected light of whitened ground.
